Every writer remembers the moment they first put pen to paper—or fingers to keyboard—with the dream of sharing their words with the world. For Lyndsey H Greer, that dream was nurtured from childhood, inspired by her father’s imaginative bedtime stories and the encouragement of an English teacher who saw a spark in her writing. Now, with the release of Thoughts from the Hills, the sequel to Thoughts from the Shore, she reflects on the joys, challenges, and invaluable lessons of being an author.
Lyndsey’s books are deeply personal, blending seasonal reflections, mindfulness, and photography to create a reading experience that offers both comfort and inspiration. She describes her work as “a collection of thoughts, wisdoms, and perspectives on life—something to dip in and out of, to inspire and console.” Readers often tell her they keep her books on their bedside table, reaching for them in moments of need. But writing is just the beginning of the journey. As many aspiring authors know, the real challenge begins when transforming a manuscript into a finished book.
Like many new authors, Lyndsey faced the daunting task of navigating the self-publishing world. That’s where The Book Whisperers came in. “I met Mary Turner Thomson at a conference I was organising and took her card. It was two years before I finally reached out!” she recalls. “I needed help with editing, layout, ISBNs, organising my Amazon KDP account, and printing advice. Mary was really patient and guided me through the whole process—must have been good, as I returned four years later with Book Two!”
Lyndsey’s experience highlights a crucial lesson for writers: finding the right support makes all the difference. Whether it’s an editor, a writing coach, or a publishing consultant, having an expert to guide you through the process can turn a daunting challenge into an exciting creative adventure.
For those at the beginning of their writing journey, Lyndsey offers simple but powerful advice:
“Write for enjoyment, not to publish or to sell but for your love of creative writing. Find a group to write with, you’ll find your journey is less lonely. You’ll start to pull together ideas and become familiar with your own style and have confidence in it. Writing is very personal, not everyone will love it but that’s ok, it’s a gift to be able to share your words. Believe in yourself!”
Lyndsey’s new book launch is set for February 11th at Bookpoint Dunoon, where she will be reading from Thoughts from the Hills and sharing insights into her journey as a writer. For authors and aspiring writers, it’s a perfect opportunity to connect with a fellow creative, hear about her process, and gain inspiration for their own projects.
